The Kentucky Narcotic Officers’ Association Training Conference will be held August 30, 31 and September 1, 2017 once again at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Louisville.
Peter Boyce will be presenting a 8 hours class “Risk Avoidance for Narcotic Officers and Supervisors” which should KLEC certified by the date of the conference.
Also presenting, Javier Peña who retired from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a Special Agent in Charge (SAC Houston Field Division) in January 2014 after 30 years of service. His career was highlighted by his volunteering for assignment to the DEA office in Bogota, Colombia in 1988, where then Special Agent Peña and his partner, then-Special Agent Steve Murphy (Retired SAC over OCDETF), set out to bring down the notorious Medellin drug cartel led by Pablo Emilio, Escobar Gaviria, or Pablo Escobar.
Retired Special Agents Peña and Murphy will present a 3 hour class on the background of the case and how they were able to take down Pablo Escobar which is portrayed on the Hit Netflix series “Narcos”.
Special Agents Peña and Murphy worked and lived with a handpicked group of Colombian National Police (CNP) personnel while pursuing Escobar. During Escobar’s reign of narco-terrorism, the cartel kingpin ordered the deaths of thousands of innocent people, including police officers, politicians, judges and a presidential candidate. Mr. Peña spent six years in the search for Pablo Escobar before his team successfully captured and killed Escobar. For his efforts, Peña received Colombia’s highest award given to someone not a Colombian citizen, as well as commendation awards from the DEA and the international community.
We will also have an intelligence sharing meeting once again facilitated by Mike Brackett, JCSO, Matt Gelhausen (LMPD) and Steve Wright, (ROCIC). We encourage you to share intel that may be helpful to your case and others present (LE Only).
The formal conference application will be out in early August and we have a block of free rooms available. The final number of rooms is pending but should be about the same as previous years. If your agency is able to pay for your room that does make more rooms available to others who’s agencies are not budgeted as well. The following link can be used to reserve a room if you or your agency is paying for the room. https://aws.passkey.com/go/2017knocconference
